Officer Elections

All of the MAE graduate students are invited to participate in our annual officer elections. Five officer positions are open, as detailed below. We will organize a meeting to occur in October for the elections, but prior to this candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • All candidates must campaign around the department and acquire a petition consisting of 30 signatures from MAE graduate students in order to apply to run. Please download a copy of the petition if you plan on running for an officer position
  • The original copy of the petition must be submitted to the current president of MEGA prior to October.
  • Once the candidates have identified themselves, we will schedule the election so that everyone can attend.
  • Elections will proceed according to the MEGA Election Procedure.

    • The Officer Positions

    President

    The president shall:
  • Direct and supervise all endeavors undertaken by MEGA.
  • Be a Rutgers graduate student for at least one year prior to holding office.
  • Be the liaison between the Faculty and MEGA.
  • Make emergency decisions.
  • Vote only in the case of a tie.



    • Vice President

    The vice president shall:
  • Assume the duties of the president in the absence of the president.
  • Contact alumni for job search advice.
  • Contact industry and academia professionals for recruitment opportunities.
  • Organize professional development events for the graduate students.
  • Become the president one year after serving as vice president.



    • Treasurer / Secretary

    The treasurer / secretary shall:
  • Keep a ledger of all financial dealings of the organization.
  • Prepare a yearly fiscal budget to be submitted to the MAE Department at the beginning of each calendar year.
  • Record, publish, and distribute the minutes of all special and regular meetings.
  • Maintain a file of all minutes.
  • Keep attendance at all meetings.
  • Keep a written and photo record of events involving MEGA and its members.



    • Social Chair

    The social chair shall:
  • Plan and coordinate all social events.
  • Collect money for all paid social events and deliver the money to the secretary / treasurer.



    • 1st Year Representative

    The 1st year representative shall:
  • Be a 1st year graduate student at Rutgers.
  • Advocate for the benefit of the incoming graduate students.
